Privacy Policy

This policy describes information handled by YouView's site administrator. YouView is an independent video-sharing site, not a service provided by YouTube or Google. This installation is currently accessible only on the operator's computer.

Information you provide

You can browse public videos without an account. Registration asks for a username, email address, password, date of birth, country, gender, and account category. Account records store a password representation used for authentication. Profile details, avatars, channel artwork, and about information are also stored when you supply them.

We store uploads and their descriptions, tags, categories, visibility settings, and related media files. Comments, replies, bulletins, messages, playlists, subscriptions, favorites, ratings, and reports create records when you use those features. Contact requests and moderation records can include information you supply about a problem.

Information from using the site

The site records information needed to run accounts and playback, including IP addresses associated with sessions or uploads, login and activity times, viewing activity, and video statistics. Server and processing logs can contain request details, timestamps, and error information.

Cookies keep you signed in and support site preferences and features such as quicklists. Browser storage remembers unfinished uploads so you can resume them. Clearing cookies or browser storage may sign you out or remove saved preferences and upload-resume information.

How information is used

The administrator uses these records to operate accounts, process and show videos, deliver requested social features, maintain statistics, investigate reports, enforce site rules, and diagnose service problems. Account and strike notices may be sent to your email address when delivery is available.

What other people can see

Your username and content you publish can be visible to visitors. Channel settings determine which profile fields and activities appear publicly. Check those settings before adding personal information; do not assume your date of birth or other optional profile details are hidden without reviewing them.

Public videos can appear in listings and search. Unlisted videos stay out of public listings but anyone with their link can view and share it. Private videos are limited through the site's access controls to their owner and authorized viewers, including administrators. These controls cannot prevent a recipient from recording or redistributing material.

Messages and nonpublic account information are accessible to the administrator for operating and moderating this installation. They are not end-to-end encrypted. Public activity may also appear in channel feeds and embeds.

Connected services and advertising

AutoShare is optional and requires an available connection to a supported outside service. When connected, YouView stores the remote account identity, authorization credentials, and posting status. Choosing to share sends the public upload's information and link to that service. Disconnecting stops future posting through that connection; it does not delete posts already made elsewhere. Those services apply their own policies.

The default ad boxes currently show local placeholders, and live publisher advertising is not active on this local installation. The administrator's ad-preview feature can request Google sample ads. Such requests can disclose an IP address, browser information, and page information to Google and may use its cookies. The administrator must update this policy with the actual provider and relevant choices before activating live advertising.

Following an outside link or enabling an outside service makes its own privacy policy relevant. YouView does not control information collected on those websites.

Playback measurements and saved lists

YouView records advancing video playback to show creators aggregate daily plays, watch time, retention and traffic-source categories. Paused, hidden, buffering, advertising and owner playback do not add watch time. These reports are best-effort browser measurements, not a historical reconstruction or a fraud-proof audience count. The measurement records contain a random playback-token digest, video ID, timestamps, watched intervals and source category (direct, internal, search, external or embedded). Signed-in playback may include the account ID. This feature does not store IP addresses or full referring URLs. Playback-session records are removed after 30 days by the processing worker; aggregate daily reports remain with the video. Other site security logs follow their own retention rules.

Watch Later is stored privately with your account until you remove entries or clear the list. Video Editor stores your clip order, trim times, project details and processing status. Publishing creates a separate upload; it does not alter the original videos.

Access, removal, and retention

Use your account controls to review or change profile details and manage your uploads, comments, and connections. For account deletion, other data requests, or privacy complaints, contact the administrator; on this local instance you can also contact them directly. Identify your account and what you want changed. The administrator may ask you to verify ownership before providing nonpublic information.

Account and content records remain until removed through the site or by the administrator. Logs, backups, and moderation history may remain after content or an account is removed where needed for recovery, security, disputes, or legal obligations. This installation does not currently use a fixed automatic retention schedule. A deletion request cannot remove copies other people have saved or shared outside YouView.

Security and younger users

Access controls help protect account data, but no service can guarantee complete security. This installation is restricted to this computer and uses an HTTP localhost connection.

Accounts are for people aged 13 or older, and YouView is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has supplied personal information, tell the administrator so the account and data can be reviewed for removal.
